The Democracy and Human Rights programme is guided by a strategic commitment to strengthening political inclusion and advancing the rights of marginalized communities through a sustained and multi layered approach. Building on the insight that trust and solidarity are essential foundations for effective advocacy, the programme prioritizes long term engagement spaces where activists, researchers, and practitioners across sectors can connect, exchange, and develop shared strategies. These gatherings are complemented by a deliberate integration of research, legal advocacy, and direct political engagement, ensuring that knowledge production translates into tangible pathways for institutional change.

At the core of the programme is the objective of expanding the political influence of women, LGBTQIA+ persons, migrants and refugees, youth, and elderly communities. This involves not only amplifying voices through public discourse, but also supporting concrete entry points into formal political processes from policy development to participation within political parties and legislative bodies. Capacity building initiatives, mentorship, and network development are designed to equip individuals and communities with the tools, confidence, and alliances necessary to engage effectively in the political arena.

In parallel, the programme advances a dual strategy of bottom up and top down engagement to promote more inclusive laws and policies. By fostering collaboration between civil society actors, policymakers, and international mechanisms, it seeks to translate grassroots demands into institutional reforms while broadening public awareness and support. As the programme expands its regional scope, particularly in East Asia, it remains attentive to the need for context sensitive approaches and strategic coherence, ensuring that diverse tools and partnerships contribute to a clear and sustained theory of change.
